And just for thought...
Roads of cobblestones, my blood stirred to life for a city I barely know yet remember so fondly.
Always this city draws me back.
I walked the river with the other tourists but I was not one of them.
I saw images of carriages riding along the bumpy road,
ladies in elegant gowns escorted by men in hats.
I was lost in another century, another time.
Squares in the middle of town where slaves were once sold.
I could see it all like it was happening in that exact moment.
Gentleman with canes strolling under the fire lit nights,
tipping their hats to the ladies walking by wearing their perfect white gloves,
and offering a gentle kiss to hands, bidding them a good night.
I saw them fanning themselves in this Georgia heat,
laughing over iced tea as soldiers said farewell to their wives, to their mothers,
going off to fight the battle that changed history forever.
At the end of the day, I'm just a girl who has been in love with writing her entire life. I am full of quirks, anxieties, fears, joys, laughter. And all I have wanted to do was give the world a smile.
