And just for thought...
Over a couple of beers, we laughed, letting the good times flow.
His eyes, a rich caramel brown and lips a shade of crimson red, looked over at me.
I smiled at his appreciation.
I know the invitation he did not speak.
Ignoring the question, we spoke about the day instead.
He wanted to know about my daughter, why I was always so vague.
I giggled because I knew this man would frighten if I ever really spoke about her to him.
I asked about his mother, a woman I will never know, in response.
Then, a silence.
He grabbed another beer and I sipped my water.
No, I knew I could no longer lay with this man.
I smiled as he moved closer, feeling my cheeks warm of his nearness to me.
I wanted to reach out if only to touch his olive skin just one more time but I resisted.
The clock struck midnight and I knew the magic was over for us.
I stood to leave.
He asked me if I wanted to stay.
Though I did, I gave him a kiss on the cheek, saying maybe next time...
At the end of the day, I'm just a girl who has been in love with writing her entire life. I am full of quirks, anxieties, fears, joys, laughter. And all I have wanted to do was give the world a smile.
