And just for thought...
She sits across from me, writing with her pen on her paper.
I photograph this moment in my mind.
Her curly hair is in a ponytail this morning.
Her big brown eyes drink in our simple world.
Every Sunday we get our bagels and talk about monkeys, her topic of choice.
These are the days I treasure, just her and me with nothing but this morning.
She grew two inches this year but still holds tight to her pacifier.
I am in no hurry to take that simple comfort away.
It is her small, big ways that I hold dear,
the way she puts her hands on her hips, the way she sings her nursery rhymes.
Before I know it this sweet toddler of mine will be a little girl, then a young lady, and finally a woman.
Instead of monkeys, we will talk about college choices and marriage and grandchildren.
She will sit in that seat with her well kept brown hair, without her paci, smiling at me.
I will pull this moment, this photograph now forever saved in my heart, and remember.
But for now, we've got today and plenty of time.
At the end of the day, I'm just a girl who has been in love with writing her entire life. I am full of quirks, anxieties, fears, joys, laughter. And all I have wanted to do was give the world a smile.
